Essay and Review on ‘ The Forests of Enchantments’ by Chitra Banerjee The Forest of Enchantments by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is the novel on Ramayana told in the voice of Sita, where she is at the heart of the novel. This book is also the justifying story of some of the other women in the epic, often misunderstood and disregarded by the margins such as Mandodari, Kaikeyi, and Surpanakhaa. This brilliant retelling deepens our understanding towards the original epic, and fills in the gap left by Sita's silent struggle throughout, for there has always been a disconnect between the truth of Sita, and the way the Indian culture thought of her.
