Reviewing the killer movie: Raya and the last Dragon!

 If I am going to be truly honest, Raya and the last dragon was the first movie I was dying to watch with the Premium subscription of Hotstar (I know I make a big deal out of it) and if I am again being honest, I started watching it 5 minutes after I got subscription! 😜😜
Raya and the last dragon, being directed by Carlos Lopez Estrada and Don hall and voiced by actors like Kelly Marie Tran (as Raya) and Awkwafina (as Sisu), Not only will this film be  Disney's first movie inspired by Southeast Asia and thus giving the world Disney's first-ever Southeast Asian princess, but Star Wars actress Kelly Marie Tran is the first Southeast Asian actress to lead a film from the company. Its awesome animation takes it to another level.



 
What really made me and my friends watch this movie was the music in the trailer. Yeah, I know. you heard it too. And it was mindblowing, right? Enough about the music, somehow the animation is too good and the action is the same way. No matter how many times you watch it, the animation is always so serene and aesthetic and gives a good feeling. And of course, the music in the movie is great! you can thank James newton Howard for that. (he was the music director).
The spoiler-free story is: Raya lives in a world full of divided regions. the land around where Raya lives looks like a dragon as you can see below:




She lives in the heart region. but once long before Raya was born (500 years, give or take), this entire landmass used to be one whole region called Kmandra. where dragons and people lived side by side. dragons provided the people making the landmass a paradise. But when the drunn came ( It is a mindless plague born from human conflict and discord. The Druun can turn living creatures into stone, namely humans and dragons, and multiply every time they do so)  and started to wreak havoc, the water dragon Sisudata had to take all dragon magic forming the Dragon gem and use it and decimate the Drunn. And all the people who turned to stone came back, but the dragons didn't. On seeing the dragon gem, the people should have worshipped the dragons and the sacrifice they just made, but people being people (as Raya quoted), they fought over it. soon the gem had to be placed in the Heart region to be protected. Back to Raya, after being betrayed by a friend, the dragon gem breaks, and the drunn returns. and the remains of the dragon gem are stolen by leaders of the lands. Raya must reunite the dragon gem and fix the world and get rid of the drunn. That below is the drunn, kinda scary (I know, right!)


Whew! That was long. anyway,  killer story huh? The drunn is afraid of water and the dragon gem pieces.  Which gives Raya a teeny bit advantage. 
I have watched it a couple of times now, and it never gets boring. The plot is through the roof. The dragon gems pieces have a quite surprising effect on sisu. 
I have loved watching these new animation movies which are gripping! I shall soon be posting about the brand new movie, Luca!

Newness in our lives is a necessity

 Today (10th march 2023) was quite a roller coaster. A nice one too. Today I got my report card, that one paper that comes in a large envelope, a day of nervousness and an absurd sense of peace in my soul (deep Ik). It stimulated my senses to feel absolutely nothing.
