How to learn from valuable experiences

Earlier last week, I was attending a Debate Competition. My first, and I had reason to believe that I would perform wonderfully and raise myself a couple of notches in the context of public speaking and confidence. However, unexpectedly I performed so poorly that I would have cringed upon watching it. My topic was changed last minute and I had to redo all of my research while waiting for my turn to debate. I could blame it, but I should rather have a passive meditation on it on what exactly went wrong. Keep reading, you might learn something valuable too.  I took some time before the day of the debate to research the topic I was allotted, and I managed to make a 1000-word research and a one-minute speech to give in my 10-minute debate. Oh, and there were 3 people other than me participating in this same 10-minute debate. So I had reason to believe that I was well off, and well prepared. The only reason why I wasn't that scared to participate was that I was a MUNer ( A person who a

My thoughts on The Forests of Enchantments

Essay and Review on ‘ The Forests of Enchantments’ by Chitra Banerjee The Forest of Enchantments by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is the novel on Ramayana told in the voice of Sita, where she is at the heart of the novel. This book is also the justifying story of some of the other women in the epic, often misunderstood and disregarded by the margins such as Mandodari, Kaikeyi, and Surpanakhaa. This brilliant retelling deepens our understanding towards the original epic, and fills in the gap left by Sita's silent struggle throughout, for there has always been a disconnect between the truth of Sita, and the way the Indian culture thought of her. Our common opinion about Sita is usually: a character playing the supporting role, meek, long-suffering and one who bears her misfortunes with silent stoicism. however, this book completely changes that which makes us realize how joyous her life was, and how agonizing a pain she went through later. It stresses the fact, that Sita may have been t

Newness in our lives is a necessity

Today (10th march 2023) was quite a roller coaster. A nice one too. Today I got my report card, that one paper that comes in a large envelope, a day of nervousness and an absurd sense of peace in my soul (deep Ik). It stimulated my senses to feel absolutely nothing. This report card was for the annual percentage and honestly, I'm not satisfied. I mean that is toxic, to be frank. But somehow, there's always something. I still remember the day I was handed my biology sheet, which indicated that I had scored a perfect score in my cycle test in the subject. Somehow, there was this feeling of... unrest. Why? Maybe I'm just always used be unsatisfied with everything that I get.  Enough on that. However, what I wanted to emphasize today, was how I was influenced by this awkward sense of newness. My report card said, passed and promoted to IX and it was just this dream come true.  Pause . I want to say something that I have never told people, except those closest t

Magic Camp!

You know this is the kind of film you reserve to watch when you are done with all the main 5-star preferences on the menu like Raya and the last dragon, Luca, the mysterious society or so and so on Hotstar. At least that’s what I did. And I gotta tell you before you do so too, hear me out and go watch it! It’s got a nice 4.6 stars review overall and I gotta, I am happy to see what it deserved! It has a lot to do with “Magic” as the first part of the name suggests, and that is kinda one of the most things that I enjoyed and isn’t like classic magic movies where it takes place 40-100 years earlier or at the time of world war (I think u know which book series I am suggesting). Nope, it takes place in the normal daily life of 2020 (yes, the beginning of 2020 since it has no mention of covid). But I gotta warn ya, it's goofy, so if it’s a movie night, and u pick this movie to watch with your family, u might be sinking lower and lower in your chair due to the embarrassing moments (ju

Covid Times: Issue 2

Image
Yes, this is the second issue of the first blog post of this blog, and as always, nobody knew that we would be in this current type of situation when the whole thing started. My name is Atharva Pachori, I’m 12 years old, I am a homeschooler and I live in Ahmedabad, India. Like I said, no one knew that we would be in this situation when it all started because the whole thing was so unpredictable, the lockdown, the waves, the vaccines, and the time the neighbouring society lowers the volume of the bang Garba music playing hard enough to be heard by someone sitting on the sun (92.5 million or somefink like that). No, seriously! I mean, the situation is way different for everyone than it was then. While some people are overly casual, much like our society residents, some may still be in the right mind, only maybe after getting a taste of what they tend to spread by not being so careful, know what I mean? But you know, I have lost quite the track of cases and lost count too.  Now that I l

The BEST and most awesome-est free world ever??!! Geshin impact and the future of this blog!

Image
Genshin impact! I mean, tough to miss as a free to play, open world, gacha (whatever that means) game! Maybe you are playing too! I mean what if you saw tons of ads in YouTube and fell in love with it just like me! And sure the game was VERY HEAVY (data wise) but seems I managed. And sometimes it scoffs all my monthly data down with its updates and graphics, but what can do? I totally love it! Even though I was on the verge of quitting (cus my network was sus the whole time! And it doesn’t give a looooot of pressure on your laptop, but yeahhh, just a teeeeeeny weeeeeeny bit), there's nothing that can light my mood up except this game (maybe a few things, OK?)! the banners, commissions, characters and weapons and unique enemies and maps, just won my heart. Unless you have been living under a rock your life, you would know the fact that there was a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE outrage by the most people or mainly veteran ones, about the anniversary rewards. It’s their 1 st anniversary a

Luca!

Image
I soo have been waiting for a review for a movie ever since I posted my “” Movie Review”: Spies In Disguise”! And here I am reviewing an animated movie once again and this one is going to be a banger! Luca! It is impossible to avoid this movie if you have the Premium subscription for Disney+ Hotstar because of the animation, story, and characters! Pixar has crafted yet another great animated film with a magic woven story and it is an awesome movie for families to watch together and have a funny, surprising, and glorious time. It features Jacob Tremblay as the voice of Luca, a desperate boy to discover the surface world since he is considered a sea monster. He lives underwater and is a creature who has awesome blue and green scale-covered bodies and fins. An entire population of these creatures live under the sea but the movie only features Luca's family and another boy called “” who is Luca's influencer to visit the surface. Luca gets really cool surface people (That’s us!) o

Reviewing the killer movie: Raya and the last Dragon!

Image
If I am going to be truly honest, Raya and the last dragon was the first movie I was dying to watch with the Premium subscription of Hotstar (I know I make a big deal out of it) and if I am again being honest, I started watching it 5 minutes after I got subscription! 😜😜 Raya and the last dragon, being directed by Carlos Lopez Estrada and Don hall and voiced by actors like Kelly Marie Tran (as Raya) and Awkwafina (as Sisu),  Not only will this film be  Disney's  first movie inspired by Southeast Asia and thus giving the world Disney's first-ever Southeast Asian princess, but Star Wars actress Kelly Marie Tran  is the first Southeast Asian actress to lead a film from the company. Its awesome animation takes it to another level.   What really made me and my friends watch this movie was the music in the trailer. Yeah, I know. you heard it too. And it was mindblowing, right? Enough about the music, somehow the animation is too good and the action is the same way. No matter how ma

Monologue: Birds, Birds, Birds!!

Monologue: Birds, Birds, Birds!! An enthusiastic birder states his feelings on how we should look for birds more.   No. wait. Did you. Did you just call a kite an eagle??!! Seriously?! What’s the difference?! Oh, I’ll tell you what’s the difference: for starters, an eagle has a big head, big wing and a fan-shaped tail. On the other hand, a kite has a medium-sized head and…ok ok. Bye. But remember! Don’t call a kite an eagle! ( Walks over to a friend in a group of people looking at the sky ) hey! Whatcha looking at? Oh, that bird ( looks up ). ( Suddenly awestruck) do you know which that bird is??  huh? No! it's NOT a flamingo!! Dude! Just look at it! There’s nooo way it can be a flamingo! It’s a painted stork, for gosh’s sakes! And it's July! Flamingoes don’t come around much in these months! Alright alright, I’ll stop. But remember! Don’t call a painted stork a… you know what, you’ll manage. ( sighs ) did you just see those guys?? They barely open their eyes to look at some o

YET another Book Review: The small Tigers of Shergarh by Ranjit lal!

Image
Yes! this is YET another book review! Why? Because I had this awesome idea to review some of the most popular and great books that I have! And this is another book that I LOVE!! This is The Small Tigers of Shergarh!   This book is legit! This awe-inspiring book is literally one of my greatest reads ever. I can guarantee I have read this over and over and over A TON OF TIMES! I got this in 2016 and you won't believe it: I met  Ranjit Lal  personally and GOT MY COPY OF THIS BOOK SIGNED! I would give anything to meet him and so would you after reading this book!   So, the plot goes like this: A 14-year-old Shika, with her 7-year-old brother Sunny, reach the Sher Garh national tiger park after a distressing accident where both their parents died and Sunny stopped speaking because of the shock of their parent's death. They reach their uncle's house which sits beside a national tiger park. Her uncle is not much bothered about them and is an eccentric painter and it soon turns out

Book review: The Beast of the Buckingham Palace by David Walliams

Image
So, I bought this book, like, 2 months ago, and I was super hyped because it would be the first book that I got in nearly 8 months (except for study textbooks 🙄 ) and also that these 2 books that I ordered were FAT. If you're curious, then the other book was "The Girl who drank the Moon" by Kelly Barnhill (on which I will be giving a review soon!). The book was all covered red and gold and looking handsome and the plotline was also good, and I began reading this book in the sunlight of a lazy Sunday morning.  You should know the fact that even if it's nearly a 400-page David Walliams book, it doesn't take long to finish because there isn't a lot of text on each page. And it took me about 2-3 hours to finish. But it's not about how long it took me to finish the book, it's about what was inside that made me curious and well, a little disappointed. So, the plotline went something like this: its timeline is based a hundred (give or take) in the future

Why you SHOULD read classics

Classics are often portrayed as boring, dull or unvaried, and tons and tons of other long words that tell you that classics are useless. But what if I was to tell you, that classics are one of the best books that exist? Yeah, I know, has already told you so. But I am going to promise you that your scenario towards classic books is going to change. And I am in no mood to give you long words and force you to read these kinds of books, but only to convince you to read them and show you a different perspective. You probably know all about  Harry Potter, right?   The world still talks about it, fans still go crazy (me included) and big events are dedicated to these books. Harry Potter books came out almost 25 years ago. Now, just think and just imagine where the concept of Harry potter be 100 years later. Do you think these books would be forgotten or sitting on the backmost shelf of the library, collecting dust? Of course not! They would be turned into classics! Why, you ask? Because it i
